In our previous report, we mentioned that more than 300 actors had signed an open letter urging their union to strike in order to secure certain demands. However, as of this morning, the number of signatures has surpassed 1000. This suggests that the actors are prepared to cease work if their demands are not met, particularly regarding protection against unauthorized use of their likenesses by AI and fair compensation from streaming services.
If an extension is agreed upon, the negotiations would continue beyond the July 4th holiday, giving both parties an opportunity to find common ground without disrupting work. The duration of the extension, whether it be a week, a month, or something in between, will be determined closer to the original end date of July 1st.
A strike would have a widespread impact on Hollywood, halting production on all film and TV projects involving SAG actors. Therefore, it is crucial to address the actors’ and writers’ needs and wants in order to revitalize production in the industry.
