Dune

Due to the ongoing actor and writer strike in Hollywood, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune sequel has been rescheduled to March 15th, 2024. This alteration sets a precedent as the initial significant title affected by the strike.

As a result of this change, there is a domino effect, causing the shift of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire from March 14th to April 12th, 2024. This adjustment is intended to safeguard its box office performance. Notably, both films are under the Warner Brothers banner.

The situation prompts reflection – these setbacks could have been averted had actors and writers been actively promoting these cinematic endeavors instead of studios navigating rescheduling.

Regrettably, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) only initiated discussions with writers in August and has not yet resumed negotiations with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) for a resolution.

These delays can be attributed to the actions of the AMPTP, and the consequence is the apparent wastage of an entire season’s worth of films.

In the wake of the unprecedented triumphs of movies like Barbie and Oppenheimer, the cinematic landscape is now devoid of one significant attraction this year.

While this is the inaugural major title to be rescheduled, it’s probable that others are poised to follow suit in the near future.
